Pearls Before Swine on the Importance of Character Names

One of the hardest challenges for me as a writer is coming up with names for my characters. The name has to match the character’s personality while still being memorable, compelling, and ideally not too ridiculous (i.e., none of my characters will be named North West. Sorry, Kim and Kanye). The pressure is definitely on when it comes to naming characters, and there are times, like this month for NaNoWriMo, where I put it off for as long as possible. Point and case: one of my novel’s characters right now is named “the boy.” This will definitely need to be fixed before November 30th hits…so which name do you prefer, dear readers? Bean Dip, or Fritos? I’m leaning more towards Fritos…
